This is my newest baby sock monkey, Mochi. She’s almost just that, a sweet rice cake with black bean curd. Yum! This Mochi is not for eating though…she’s made for snuggling. :)

Mochi sock monkey wears a lime green hoodie with monkey design and monkey ears. Her hoodie also comes with pink and blue striped long sleeves to keep her warm. The monkey ears on her hoodie are the smallest I’ve made. They’re so cute, I want to touch them!

Mochi Baby Mars Sock Monkey was made as a custom order. For more info visit maribel.etsy.com.

Meet little Ali-Star! He wears the very first baby star sweater and a new bucket hat I made from my stash of vintage fabric samples. I think I’ll use some of that fabric to make more sock monkey accessories! When it came time to sew Alistair’s bucket hat I found that the instructions I used were removed from the Simplicity web site -although it looks like they’re back up! Good thing it’s not a complicated pattern otherwise I would have had some trouble. :)

Say hello to Valerie, the newest addition to the family of brothers and sisters which include Phelan, Edwin and the LeAnn & Rhea twins! Valerie and her brother Phelan will be taking a trip to London this week to meet their new family. I’m going to miss them.

Valerie’s orange hoodie design is based on some art done by a group of artists called XLF. I suspect this might be Julieta’s work since the design is super cute (see below)! I also thought it would be neat to follow through on the graffiti vibe and add some splotches of color to resemble spray paint.

Meet Baby Phelan! My friend told me that his name means “little wolf”, which I think suits him perfectly since he’s like a little wild animal. :)

These photos were taken at a construction site right across the street. I don’t like the noise at 7:30 in the morning, but I have grown fond of these big machines living in front of us. I thought the site would make a good place to shoot a baby boy sock monkey. Boys will be boys after all!

For Phelan’s sweater, I really gave myself a good challenge with the design of the fire engine. I wasn’t happy at all with the knit results of the original fire truck design, which was angled, making it impossible to tell what it was. As soon as I changed the view of the fire engine the basic shapes of the body, windows and ladder looked much better!

I just added two new sock monkeys to my Mars Sock Monkey album on flickr. Abigail the plaid monkey is a custom sock monkey. The owl on her sweater was inspired from a photo of a cute USB owl! I had fun making the pom-pom hat since I hadn’t made one in a while. Baby Cassie comes in a pink and yellow Heart Hoodie. She’s the first baby sock monkey to wear one! These and Star Hoodies come standard on all Mars Sock Monkeys. :)

I also had whole new settings to work with for Abigail and Cassie’s photos. Not to mention record breaking 100 degree weather! For the sweaters there’s two photos showing parts of the knitting process. I use the mattress stitch and kitchener stitch to seam up the hood pieces shown in the pink hoodie photo. The owl design on Abigail’s sweater is knit in fair isle.

These days I’m working on baby sock monkeys (no 1 and 5 below)! Some of these socks came from the babyGap and fortunately didn’t carry bumpy logos at the bottom of the sole like most of their other socks. So annoying when trying to find suitable socks btw! The one with the strawberry is cute, but I wonder how much of the design will actually show once it’s sewn.

Stay tuned to see what these baby sock monkeys will wear. I see lots of bright and bold colors for them!

It’s been a little over 2 weeks since I got on a plane in London to move back to the States. It’s a little hard to believe considering the amount of travel and things we’ve done already. Seems more like months! But even with the change and lack of routine, somehow there’s still time to make sock monkeys! It must be the cleaning and cooking I’m not doing. :D

We’ve also explored a lot of the Bay Area and San Francisco, where we’re at now. It’s been lovely so far! I can’t get enough of the food and the great sights to see. I’ve also visited a couple of friends.

In between the travel to and from the Bay Area, I completed Baby Claudia, which sold within a day! I’ll probably be focusing on making more baby sock monkeys right now. I have 6 pairs of baby socks I brought with me from London. Also Mayah, a new order I just finished, will be coming out very shortly. I love her name! She was named by my client. :)

and measures about 8″ tall and 3″ wide.

Here’s the finished bucket hat I made for little Mauricio. I really like it on him! It makes him look cute and feminine. The hat is reversible with summery bright colors on one side and pastels on the other. The pattern I used, Simplicity bucket hat pattern, is free online! You can read about how I used the pattern here, Simplicity Misses’ Bucket Hat Pattern.

Claudia’s sweater is complete and I’ll probably be taking photos soon. I have a totally new backdrop to work with! :)

It’s been sunny here in London the last couple of days. Good time to do a photo shoot with Mauricio! He was great. I wanted to take him out, but with the move nearing it was hard. The balcony was a good spot though. Passed for a “coastal” feel.

Mauricio a.k.a Huicho is a gift for my mom. I told her I wanted to make her a sock monkey and she said she wanted a little one. She didn’t even know I was thinking of making little ones! She totally read my mind. Mauricio is also the first born Baby Mars Sock Monkey! There will be plenty more to make in the next couple of months. They’ve proven quite popular! :)

At  8″ tall and 3″ wide, he fits on the palm of your hand!
