Kumi is my newest kid-size sock monkey! She’s a little smaller than an adult Mars Sock Monkey, which measures about 15″ inches. Kumi stands 12″ tall and she wears an aquatic colored Squidlet hoodie with brown kitty ears! Her colors remind me of the sea.

I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I will say that I’m working on new Mars Sock Monkeys, the next generation! Stay tuned for updates on that. Talking about generations, I pictured Kumi next to one of the very first sock monkeys I made called Shayla. Take a look. :)

I came across Momiji dolls not long ago via the Momiji Couture Contest! Momiji dolls are friendship dolls which have a space underneath their body for a secret message. I was so happy to find out more about them since I love the original Japanese Kokeshi doll. I’m going to be so tempted to participate!

This sounds lovely: The top ten finalists will be exhibited at Royal/T in Los Angeles and the winning entry will be featured in Selvedge magazine. Contest judges include no other that Barbara Hulanicki, Pip McCormac from Sunday Times Style and Selvedge magazine.

Henry was inspired from Eriko, the first sock monkey I sold! Eriko is a boy, but Henry is a girl. I like girls with boy names (it reminds me of Lady Oscar). The thing I love the most about Henry is her doggy print. I got these and another pair with monkey faces! For her hoodie I tried to mostly use lavender and yellow, but I did add a small pink heart to accent the pocket below.

I happened to go through a major breakthrough with this sock monkey. I sewed what should have been the legs as the head and vice-versa. I did this so that the doggy faces appeared right side up. Yay! :)

Good things coming up ahead. There’s a couple of baby monkeys coming soon. I’ve also reached over 50 sales on Etsy! Thanks everyone!! :D

The first Urban Craft Uprising show I went to must have been December 06. I wasn’t doing much crafting at the time, but having the urge to made me curious about the Seattle craft scene. This year’s first Summer 09 Urban Craft Uprising was great. I guess I couldn’t get enough because I went both days! Meeting people opening day Saturday was fun and the 3d felting demo given by Moxie on Sunday was pretty cool.

There were also a ton of things I really, really wanted (in no particular order):

Maluhia Designs Japanese fabric purses, covers, etc!
Fox & Clover necklaces
Amy Hevron art
Wooly Bison bags
Spooky Mama Creations jewelry
Manmade Monsters t-shirts
Polymath Design Lab jewelry and home
Population One bags
Thea Starr Kanzashi hair accessories
Devout dolls and oddities!
Chikabird fabric pencil notebooks
Hasenpfeffer Incorporated dolls
Friends of Socktopus toys
Jessi Taylor jewelry
Cake spy illustrations
Berkley Illustration! art
Orange House Press. I think you get the idea. :)

These are only a few of the great products designed and put together by some very talented and dedicated people (some of whom I met)! The photos I took on Sunday are some of the vendors and artists that day. I know I missed many faces so sorry about that, but feel free to fill in the gaps by commenting or adding notes on the photos. Oh yeah, I was asked if I was selling at the event, but not this year. Hopefully I can showcase some Mars Sock Monkeys at an Urban Craft Uprising show in the future. I’m looking forward to December’s show!

This is the first time I’ve made a sweater for a sock monkey that wasn’t one of my own. Finnoola Peach came from a sock monkey kit created by Cary Lane from Monkey Sock Monkey. It’s a great idea! Maribel Made is also considering making sock monkey kits for Mars Sock Monkeys! I left London with this idea so there’s details to be worked out still, but I’m really excited about the possibility. I think of my new motto as: Dressing Sock Monkeys One at a Time. :)

Sock monkey sweaters come with a heart or star design; custom sweaters  and other accessories like hats and scarfs are also available. Message me if you’re interested in clothing for your sock monkey!

Weeeeee! It only took me what seams forever to complete the latest sock monkey. It’s summer, there are things going on, I just moved countries…in the end there’s always a friend giving me a drink. I guess it didn’t take me that long! It’s only been since early June that I started working on the socks with the tag labeled Monkey #2. Three weeks later Kit-Kat, the first ever Mars Sock Monkey made from knee-high socks, was born!

What made this one fun was making the really long striped sleeves. I also had a cool theme to work with…Kitty! I wasn’t sure I was going to leave the whiskers, but then I put on it’s kitty & crossbones hoodie and it all came together nicely! ;)

Things in the works: I’m making a sweater for a sock monkey a little girl made from a kit called Finnoola Peach. Ooh, I like the idea of sock monkey kits! Also sewing baby socks and designing a ladybug graphic for a hoodie. :)

I’m currently working on a sock monkey made from a pair of socks sent to me earlier this month. They completely rock! They come with hearts and skulls in a berry and sky blue argyle print!

This sock monkey called for spooky with it’s freakishly long limbs plus I loved the idea of incorporating some kitty features so I made several sweater designs with this in mind…

The pirate kitty sweater with pink and blue stripped sleeves was a good match! These animal sweaters or as I like to call them, cosplay hoodies, are really fun to make! I think a bunny, bear or doggy eared hoodie would be cute as well. :)

It’s been a little over 2 weeks since I got on a plane in London to move back to the States. It’s a little hard to believe considering the amount of travel and things we’ve done already. Seems more like months! But even with the change and lack of routine, somehow there’s still time to make sock monkeys! It must be the cleaning and cooking I’m not doing. :D

We’ve also explored a lot of the Bay Area and San Francisco, where we’re at now. It’s been lovely so far! I can’t get enough of the food and the great sights to see. I’ve also visited a couple of friends.

In between the travel to and from the Bay Area, I completed Baby Claudia, which sold within a day! I’ll probably be focusing on making more baby sock monkeys right now. I have 6 pairs of baby socks I brought with me from London. Also Mayah, a new order I just finished, will be coming out very shortly. I love her name! She was named by my client. :)

It’s been sunny here in London the last couple of days. Good time to do a photo shoot with Mauricio! He was great. I wanted to take him out, but with the move nearing it was hard. The balcony was a good spot though. Passed for a “coastal” feel.

Mauricio a.k.a Huicho is a gift for my mom. I told her I wanted to make her a sock monkey and she said she wanted a little one. She didn’t even know I was thinking of making little ones! She totally read my mind. Mauricio is also the first born Baby Mars Sock Monkey! There will be plenty more to make in the next couple of months. They’ve proven quite popular! :)

At  8″ tall and 3″ wide, he fits on the palm of your hand!
