Yesterday I went to an Etsy Craft Party at their headquarters located in Brooklyn, NY. The event celebrated creativity and community not in the great city of Brooklyn, but also in many other cities all around the globe. It was a blast and I met a lot of great crafty people! There was food, music, drinks and lots of craft activities to choose from.

I spent most of my time glass painting (see octopus arms glass) which I missed at a previous Etsy Labs craft night. I also got around to screen printing my own Etsy totebag! There was also a station for making bunting and crazy party hats, which was very interesting to see. The event also happened to be Etsy’s 5th birthday so Happy Birthday Etsy!

I’m now into my fifth week at Twitter and I’m up to 230 @maribelmade followers! I’m a little beyond 300 people I follow and I’ve started using TweetDeck to organize my content for the last week. I’m enjoying it so far! I’ve got a “friends” group, a “crafty friends” group and I think I’m going to make a “super crafty friends” group for the people I really want to pay close attention to. Things are still flying by pretty quickly!

I’ve made a lot of new friends in the past four weeks and I thank all these new friends for the yummy content they feed me on a regular basis. In turn, I present some of the most interesting content in a weekly blog post I call Maribel Made Twit Finds. I hope you enjoy the finds. :)

Having come across the work of self-taught artist Stephanie Granshaw was much like being enlighten. As a portrait artist, Stephanie focuses on the beauty of the feminine through the drawings and paintings she creates. I can’t decide which I like best, her portraits of iconic women or her paintings with gradients and strands of color. I feel very inspired every time I look at her work. She’s amazing!

Steph works with graphite, color pencils, water colors, oils and acrylics. She has art prints available for sale in various formats and she is also open to commissions.

Scavenging down Brick Lane last month unattended, I paid my way into a fair called the Art Car Boot Fair. It was quite interesting and it made me think of a few things. One, people pay for the weirdest things and secondly, the art in this photograph -which I learned is made by an artist named Pure Evil (nice)!

Something about the art in the poster striked somewhere in me. It’s the wabi-sabi atmospheric vibe that I got from it, yet it was still mesmerizing and it awoke a new way of thinking…well it was this art that inspired me to create something with spray paint. “Gold or Gold” spray paint and a Picasso backdrop to be exact.

I thought of this banana pattern as I was doodling on a friend’s Facebook page. I ended up liking the design so much that I had to paint it on real canvas.

Each banana would almost be symmetrical if folded in half horizontally, but the pattern itself is not. Although, there is something about each banana rotated and suspended within a specified amount of white space that reminds me of something my mind would think of being symmetrical. This is No. 1 of 4 Fruit Wallpaper paintings to be made.
