Sock Monkey and Rosita are two happily adopted sock monkeys. Why? Just look at their cute baby owners! Aww.
I made Sock Monkey below before I started naming each sock monkey that’s why he’s simply Sock Monkey. He’s the fifth sock monkey I made and it was given to a friend who had just had a baby girl. Rosita came much later as the 30th Mar Sock Monkey! She also lives with another one of my friends, she’s pink and wears a strawberry hoodie. :)

The first Urban Craft Uprising show I went to must have been December 06. I wasn’t doing much crafting at the time, but having the urge to made me curious about the Seattle craft scene. This year’s first Summer 09 Urban Craft Uprising was great. I guess I couldn’t get enough because I went both days! Meeting people opening day Saturday was fun and the 3d felting demo given by Moxie on Sunday was pretty cool.

There were also a ton of things I really, really wanted (in no particular order):
Maluhia Designs Japanese fabric purses, covers, etc!
Fox & Clover necklaces
Amy Hevron art
Wooly Bison bags
Spooky Mama Creations jewelry
Manmade Monsters t-shirts
Polymath Design Lab jewelry and home
Population One bags
Thea Starr Kanzashi hair accessories
Devout dolls and oddities!
Chikabird fabric pencil notebooks
Hasenpfeffer Incorporated dolls
Friends of Socktopus toys
Jessi Taylor jewelry
Cake spy illustrations
Berkley Illustration! art
Orange House Press. I think you get the idea. :)
These are only a few of the great products designed and put together by some very talented and dedicated people (some of whom I met)! The photos I took on Sunday are some of the vendors and artists that day. I know I missed many faces so sorry about that, but feel free to fill in the gaps by commenting or adding notes on the photos. Oh yeah, I was asked if I was selling at the event, but not this year. Hopefully I can showcase some Mars Sock Monkeys at an Urban Craft Uprising show in the future. I’m looking forward to December’s show!

I just added two new sock monkeys to my Mars Sock Monkey album on flickr. Abigail the plaid monkey is a custom sock monkey. The owl on her sweater was inspired from a photo of a cute USB owl! I had fun making the pom-pom hat since I hadn’t made one in a while. Baby Cassie comes in a pink and yellow Heart Hoodie. She’s the first baby sock monkey to wear one! These and Star Hoodies come standard on all Mars Sock Monkeys. :)
I also had whole new settings to work with for Abigail and Cassie’s photos. Not to mention record breaking 100 degree weather! For the sweaters there’s two photos showing parts of the knitting process. I use the mattress stitch and kitchener stitch to seam up the hood pieces shown in the pink hoodie photo. The owl design on Abigail’s sweater is knit in fair isle.

I’ve been holding on to these great photos sent to me by Mars Sock Monkey owners for too long! Makes me glad to see all these happy monkeys traveling to Scotland, eating pizza at Uni, relaxing at home and even learning new tricks. Thanks for sending them! :D

Weeeeee! It only took me what seams forever to complete the latest sock monkey. It’s summer, there are things going on, I just moved countries…in the end there’s always a friend giving me a drink. I guess it didn’t take me that long! It’s only been since early June that I started working on the socks with the tag labeled Monkey #2. Three weeks later Kit-Kat, the first ever Mars Sock Monkey made from knee-high socks, was born!
What made this one fun was making the really long striped sleeves. I also had a cool theme to work with…Kitty! I wasn’t sure I was going to leave the whiskers, but then I put on it’s kitty & crossbones hoodie and it all came together nicely! ;)

Things in the works: I’m making a sweater for a sock monkey a little girl made from a kit called Finnoola Peach. Ooh, I like the idea of sock monkey kits! Also sewing baby socks and designing a ladybug graphic for a hoodie. :)

It’s been sunny here in London the last couple of days. Good time to do a photo shoot with Mauricio! He was great. I wanted to take him out, but with the move nearing it was hard. The balcony was a good spot though. Passed for a “coastal” feel.
Mauricio a.k.a Huicho is a gift for my mom. I told her I wanted to make her a sock monkey and she said she wanted a little one. She didn’t even know I was thinking of making little ones! She totally read my mind. Mauricio is also the first born Baby Mars Sock Monkey! There will be plenty more to make in the next couple of months. They’ve proven quite popular! :)

At 8″ tall and 3″ wide, he fits on the palm of your hand!

She’s a rainbow, just like the song! Monica Mars Sock Monkey was made from a rainbow sock and believe it or not, she’s the first true rainbow sock monkey I’ve made. Umm, you could say she was a bit of a challenge because I had to complement her bold colors with a soft sweater.
I’m now finding that I also have to do certain things to make the monkeys look like either boys or girls. For instance if it’s a boy I’d make it a bigger mouth, maybe larger ears and separate the eyes a little bit. For a girl monkey I would do the opposite, of course following up with right boy and girl colors. It’s so much fun! It’s like playing Frankenstein! Mu ha ha ha. Or does he not make that sound.

I got some great photos of Simon Mars Sock Monkey to add to my flickr set of adopted Mars Sock Monkeys! I made him over the holiday on a plane and he made it just in time for Christmas. Photos with Simon were taken by Holly, a great creative gal. I named Simon after her son. They’re so cute! Read more about Simon here, Last Custom Sock Monkeys in 2008.

It was so much fun photographing my latest sock monkey, Rosita! We had a lot of snow in London earlier this week so I thought she’d look great appearing like she wanted to go out and play in the snow. Of course, I didn’t let her because then she would have gotten all dirty and made it to her new home looking like a little punk. ;)
