Jenny is part of the Spring Mars Sock Monkey batch I made last month. She comes with a light purple sweatshirt hoodie with blue and pink sleeves and a “flower power” design. Jenny is also made from a pair of rainbow knee high socks, which give her those long arms, legs and tail. Good for those bear hugs! She measures about 24″ tall.
Get Jenny Mars Sock Monkey and other Mars Sock Monkeys with Free Shipping worldwide at the new and experimental Maribel Made eBay and Maribel Made Etsy stores until May 1st. Let the bidding begin! :)

Yay! I managed to put together the sixth Maribel Made Twit Finds. Things are a bit hectic over here because I’m moving. Country moves are epic, but it’s a good thing our flat came furnished. You might see a bit of a change in my blogging in the next month or so until things get a bit settled, but I’m going to try very hard to keep you all up to date on what’s going on. For now, I hope you enjoy my Twit Finds. :)
This week’s Twit Finds:
- How to Make a “Bloomin’Box” for Spring by Jeffery Rudell of CraftStylish- I’m totally going to try this tonight. I need a break! (via @dudecraft)
- Cinnamon Copper Cushion Pillow Cover by Hand Knitted Things on Etsy- It may look simple, but it’s chic and very nicely done. :) (via @timothyadam)
- Easter Egg Radish Scarf MULTI scarflet lariat necklace crochet amigurumi by TWiNKiE CHAN on Etsy - This scarf is so fun and super cute! Kyaa!! (via @twinkiechan)
- Chair by Andrea Joseph’s Illustrations - I love this illustration. Andrea’s work is very pretty. :) (via @michaelnobbs )

Earlier this month Plush You! wrote a great article about my Mars Sock Monkeys on their blog!
Plush You! is an annual exhibition showcasing plush creations from artists all over the globe…I believe the 2009 exhibition is coming up! Plush You! is also run by the fabulous Schmansy toy shop based in Seattle, which I have to say I’m familiar with from having lived there. Thanks Plush You! for the lovely feature. :)

I’m now into my fourth week of using Twitter and I’m up to 175 @maribelmade followers! I’m close to following 300 people and I’ve already reached a point where I can no longer keep up with my feed as much as I’d like. This is making me sad, so I think I’m going to start using TweetDeck to categorize all my content.
I’ve made a lot of new friends in the past three weeks and I thank these new friends for all the yummy content they feed me on a regular basis. In turn, I present some of this neat content to you in a weekly blog post I call Maribel Made Twit Finds. I hope you enjoy the goodies. :)
This week’s Twit Finds:
- Handstitched Cupcake Purse tutorial by paper-and-string - These little zipper pouches are lovely! I need to get my hands on some pretty felt. (via @craft)
- Custom Baby Sweater by HandKnitHugs - I love the idea of customizing a baby’s sweater with an initial. I made one for sock monkey Edwin not too long ago. (via @HandknitHugs)
- Stuffed Monster Gallery by Anne Karsten - A collection of stuffed monsters based on toys drawn by 4th and 5th grade students. Kids learning about product development at such an early age is quite a concept! (@crafts)
- monito-de-montte-copia by Alberto Montt - Twittering about monitos, PinkBonsai sent me this beautiful one. (@PinkBonsai)
- Brain and Heart by The Heart of Papercuts - Some of the most beautiful papercuts I’ve seen. These papercuts are made by Elsa Mora. Her work can be purchased at Three Graces Gallery. Added to wishlist. (via @TommmyKane)
- Dandy Victorian Peacock Cameo Corset by Louis Black Designs - I was breathless when I saw this gorgeous corset! It’s so elegantly gothic. Also in my wishlist. ;) (via @DeadpanAlley)
See you again next week!

I finally opened shop at Art Fire, a new up-and-coming online marketplace for handmade goods quickly gaining a spot next to Etsy. I’m glad more companies are taking a shot at the space. I think there needs to be more options out there for sellers so they can decide what fits them best. Like one of my pet peev’s about Etsy are their fees for listing and for purchased items. I mean come on, I’m selling handmade here not commercially produced goods! Why take advantage of the seller who is responsible for creating the content in the first place? Apparently, Art Fire doesn’t have any fees, but then that’s what DaWanda said too and I recently got an invoice from them! That’s for another topic.
Well here it is, Maribel Made Art Firs Studio! I’m still very new at using Art Fire’s system. It has loads of stuff and tools. I personally think they have to much going on in the seller dashboard, but I’m sure with time they’ll focus on what’s working and what’s not. One thing I like is the studio stats. These show incoming links to your shop and for each of the items listed in your store. The stats page also explains how to link your shop to Google Analytics to get more comprehensive stat reporting.
One thing that turned me off at first was that prices entered in USD were automatically calculated to GBP based on the current exchange rate. For example, my Mars Sock Monkey which sells for $50 actually appears for sale today at £34.51 so I suppose it changes the price depending on what country you’re at. I wasn’t very excited about the .51, but I guess it doesn’t matter. I was actually listing dollars, pounds and euros on Etsy so this does make my job a lot easier. I noticed that prices entered into the Product Description box are also converted! Kinda cool.

I’m sure you’ve heard lots about Twitter. It’s an exploding social network, but in a way it’s unlike most other social networks. My boyfriend got me to sign up during it’s early stages and it hadn’t been until now that I started using it again (Maribel Made on Twitter). At the time I used it on my phone, but it seemed sort of pointless then. Using it on the web is much more useful! Anyway, I had to find out what was the big deal was with it nowadays.
I’d have to say that after one week of using it, the way I consumed information on the web changed! I can’t quite put my finger on it, but search seems antiquated now. I think I’d rather learn something of interest from someone I stumble upon on Twitter and follow. And I have. Lots! In such a short amount of time too.
So I thought, why now share my Twitter finds with the world. For this I thank all the artistic people I’m following. With no further a due, I give you my initial Twit Finds weekly column!
This week’s Twit Finds:
- Spoonflower fabrics - Custom fabric on demand anyone? I can’t wait to use this service! Katty Neill has some great fabric designs. I heart this birdie one the best. :) (via @kittyvane)
- Little Bird illustrations by Kate Wilson - I really like the pointillist aspect…plus they are so cute! (via @littledoodles)
- Fugu sock monkey by Mitsumori Toy Design - Amazing art dolls by toy designer Hatsuko Mitsumori (via @CampSockMonkey)
- How to Make Dorset Buttons from CraftStylish- My love of buttons couldn’t help bookmarking this on delicious. The detailed photos are great! (via @CraftStylish)
- Happy Tree Gang by lemonshortbread on Etsy - Very pretty collectable art cards with lots of imagination.
- Sock Monkeys a history by Snively - Of course I have to know about the history of the sock monkey. Great blog! (via @CampSockMonkey)

With so many social sites out there it gets hard trying to update each one of them with links to the other sites I’m on. If I’m on Facebook, I add all my links except for Facebook’s. If I’m on MySpace, I have to include Facebook’s link but leave MySpace’s out. Ah, I only have so much time!!
That’s why I was thrilled to come across DandyID. It’s exactly what I needed! I can just point all my social sites to this ONE link, which list all the services I’m on! No more fussing with what link goes where and which one doesn’t. One less thing to think about.
DandyID is in beta now so I hope they keep developing it. There are some sites I’m missing because they haven’t been added like IndiePublic, Zazzle, Facebook Pages (if that’s possible), DIY City and StyleHive. I mean they obviously have a big job to do. Somehow it should allow one to add missing links from their current list, have it figure out the site details and add it to their system. Well that’s my 2 cents at least. :)
Add me on any of these services!
