I went back and colored thoughtful girl to make a drawing called Thinking of you. It’s inspired by little bits of Seattle.  I also have a new sock monkey illustration celebrating ice cream in summer time! See Paletas Monitos.

Now I want ice cream.  ;)

Yay! I managed to put together the sixth Maribel Made Twit Finds. Things are a bit hectic over here because I’m moving. Country moves are epic, but it’s a good thing our flat came furnished. You might see a bit of a change in my blogging in the next month or so until things get a bit settled, but I’m going to try very hard to keep you all up to date on what’s going on. For now, I hope you enjoy my Twit Finds. :)

With Easter coming up, I decided to make a drawing of a Mars Sock Monkey on an egg hunt. I even put a peep in his little basket! I’m really looking forward to making more holiday themed drawings starring the sock monkeys. Let’s see, next holiday is Cinco de Mayo. Woohoo! Maybe there’ll be a charro monkey or a monkey wearing a sarape!

Easter Bunkey prints, t-shirts, postcards and more available at deviantART, CafePress and Zazzle.

I encourage you to download as well under Creative Commons License. :)

I recently volunteered to make a cartoon for a friend. I was glad because I hadn’t drawn anything in a while. The drawing had to consist of a cartoon girl you know with eyes in the clouds thinking about something.

The girl in the first sketch I made was too young. She’s about 8 years old and at the time I was craving marshmallows. The second drawing was more on the mark. The character is a barista and while she thinks of her bunny in a far away place, she spills coffee all over the counter! I grabbed the bunny graphic I did for a sock monkey sweater and I had the girl hold it with arms extended above her head. They’re cute together!

The image inside the thought bubble was not required. It will actually be left blank and used for changing content. I just couldn’t resist adding something in it. Now they could use some color. :)

I just launched a new Etsy shop! My Pretty Ones is a collection of illustrations I made during life drawing sessions held around London in 2008. The cool thing about the shop is that I’ll be selling original drawings, not prints, right off my notebook!

Below is the first illustration for sale this week; one more will be listed each week thereafter. There is about 20 illustrations in total, making them a unique collection. I am keeping a couple of them for myself though. The rest I’ll have in digital format for future archiving. :)

I’m posting two life drawing session done last November and December. These may be the last sessions I do in London for a while. Although, there might be some coming out of New York in the next couple of months.

Week 7 was modeled by a male…a violinist. Men are definitely harder to draw and I think it’s because their bodies are blockier than women’s so my pencil had to make a lot more stops. I lack the practice as well though. There just isn’t as many male model as there are females ones I guess.

Week 8 was modeled by an Asian woman and I’d have to say that I struggled drawing her face. I don’t get to draw too many Asian faces unfortunately. I loved her star tattoos!

Having come across the work of self-taught artist Stephanie Granshaw was much like being enlighten. As a portrait artist, Stephanie focuses on the beauty of the feminine through the drawings and paintings she creates. I can’t decide which I like best, her portraits of iconic women or her paintings with gradients and strands of color. I feel very inspired every time I look at her work. She’s amazing!

Steph works with graphite, color pencils, water colors, oils and acrylics. She has art prints available for sale in various formats and she is also open to commissions.

This is one from her Circles Series.

These are from her Others Series.

I tried something different this time and went white on black. It felt good to stimulate that left side of the brain -ah! I’m also excited to use the water color pencils I got along with the black paper. I have no idea how they’re gonna work out or how to use them, but experimenting is always fun.

For this I used: Stabilo CarbOthello 100 and 724 pencils, Daley Rowney A4 black paper.

In order of my favorites…

The model had a visible spaghetti strap tan line!

Sometimes when I have extra time I like to draw the furniture and here it was necessary.

I like it when the models wear accessories. :)

For this one we changed seats three different time. It was a bit troublesome, but I lived.

There is something about this one I like and don’t like.

I made her a bit too wide in this one.
