Check out the felt cake I made at Etsy Labs Faux Felt Cakes With My Candy Castle craft night. It’s a bit vampire-esque mixed with Americana!

Download the instructions and pattern from Etsy’s page. :)

I just listed a new sock monkey for sale on Etsy! Apple Mars Sock Monkey comes with hand-knit green & pink heart hoodie and she’s made from a pair of kid size pink & brown knee-high socks. Unlike most other knitted hoodie Mars Sock Monkeys, Apple is not a custom sock monkey so anyone can purchase her. :)

Next time I’ll tell you more about custom Mars Sock Monkeys and how you can get one of your own!

My latest monkey Artie is a good example of a custom sock monkey with an initial hoodie. His hoodie includes two letters: an “A” on the front and an “S” on back. Each letter is also enclosed inside a heart, which was my client’s idea! Another interesting thing about Artie is that he was picked up by the buyer after I finished him. It was nice delivering Artie in person. :)

Later this week I’m listing a new sock monkey wearing a knit hoodie for sale in the shop. I’ll let you know when she’s ready!

Meet my newest sock monkeys, Peggy and Cookie! They’re the first Mars Sock Monkeys made from my home in Brooklyn. These hip gals are wearing the signature Pink ♥ Hoodie well known to the classic Mars Sock Monkey. Lately I had been using so many different designs for the front of the sweatshirts that I thought it’d be nice to go back to basics. I’m going to continue to make more heart hoodies, including some with stars for the boys.

Peggy and Cookie Mars Sock Monkeys are available for purchase at Maribel Made on Etsy. Happy shopping! Next time I’ll tell you how to make the reversible totebag I made last week at Etsy Labs.  :)

I recently I stumbled upon La Carmina. Now that I think about it, I must have come across her site while searching for reference photos for my Harajuku Sweet Lolita style Halloween costume (see below).

In her blog, La Carnima writes about Japanese pop culture, fashion, music, cute things…everything I admire! It’s no wonder I immediately fell in love with her blog. She’s also author of two books, Crazy Wacky Theme Restaurants: Tokyo and her newest book on cute food recipes called Cute Yummy Time.

La Carmina is always up to something! This time she’s giving away 5 autographed copies of Crazy Wacky Theme Restaurants: Tokyo to a lucky random winner who answers “If you had to open your own theme restaurant, what would it be?”…

Of course, mine would have to be a sock monkey themed restaurant! This wacky restaurant would be staffed by people and their sock monkeys pets. You’d be able to choose from a variety of sock monkeys to wait on you and your group depending on your mood and taste for the evening since each sock monkey would be dressed in a different style of clothes, which would match the waitress’ or waiters outfit! I would personally choose a kimono sock monkey or day of the dead sock monkey. I would also display books, artwork, fashion and interior design specifically related to sock monkeys.

Some of the things you could possibly see in my restaurant would be:
Rebecca Yaker’s sock monkey dresses (my favorite being the couture dress)
Super Sammy, one of the world’s largest sock monkey
And who could forget real monkeys! Snow monkeys. :)

Now that would be my kind of wacky theme restaurant!

Here’s a photo of me in my Sweet Lolita costume after a night of trick or treating with my friend Lisa Lovejoy, who’s also a sock monkey maker! I made the bow on my hair, dress and scarf. I also wore my pink Heart Knit Ring. Pictured with me are Lauren Mars Sock Monkey and my Waffle Ice Cream Cone by Laimee. Kawaii! :)

I just added two new sock monkeys to my Mars Sock Monkey album on flickr. Abigail the plaid monkey is a custom sock monkey. The owl on her sweater was inspired from a photo of a cute USB owl! I had fun making the pom-pom hat since I hadn’t made one in a while. Baby Cassie comes in a pink and yellow Heart Hoodie. She’s the first baby sock monkey to wear one! These and Star Hoodies come standard on all Mars Sock Monkeys. :)

I also had whole new settings to work with for Abigail and Cassie’s photos. Not to mention record breaking 100 degree weather! For the sweaters there’s two photos showing parts of the knitting process. I use the mattress stitch and kitchener stitch to seam up the hood pieces shown in the pink hoodie photo. The owl design on Abigail’s sweater is knit in fair isle.

This is the first time I’ve made a sweater for a sock monkey that wasn’t one of my own. Finnoola Peach came from a sock monkey kit created by Cary Lane from Monkey Sock Monkey. It’s a great idea! Maribel Made is also considering making sock monkey kits for Mars Sock Monkeys! I left London with this idea so there’s details to be worked out still, but I’m really excited about the possibility. I think of my new motto as: Dressing Sock Monkeys One at a Time. :)

Sock monkey sweaters come with a heart or star design; custom sweaters  and other accessories like hats and scarfs are also available. Message me if you’re interested in clothing for your sock monkey!

Remember Samantha? Well Evelyn is her twin sister. Good not evil sister. They are both good actually. Very good! I’m back to working on baby sock monkeys. I finished Mauricio’s sweater today (it’s so little!) and I’m going to start making his hat. Contemplating whether to use yarn or fabric though. Maybe fabric would be a nice change. I found a pattern for a bucket hat I’ll probably use as a guide.
