Did you know Maribel Made is now based in Brooklyn, NY? It’s only been a little over one week since I left Seattle, but I can tell I’m really going to enjoy living here for the next three months. There are so many things I already love about New York and one of them is the fact that I’m really close to Etsy, which hosts a weekly craft night every Monday at their Etsy Labs headquarters in Brooklyn.

Earlier this week I attended my very first session: Stenciled Cards. There was  a demonstration by Ed Roth using stencils from his new Stencil 101 Stationery Kit, which I used to make a couple of greeting cards. I made a Thank You card and a Birthday Card for my soon-to-be birthday boy. I can’t wait to go to next week’s Reversible Totebag class.

I’m really happy I’ll have more crafty projects to share with you. I’ve already received my new sewing machine so it won’t be too long before you’ll see some Brooklyn raised Mars Sock Monkeys. They’re on the horizon!

This is the first time I’ve made a sweater for a sock monkey that wasn’t one of my own. Finnoola Peach came from a sock monkey kit created by Cary Lane from Monkey Sock Monkey. It’s a great idea! Maribel Made is also considering making sock monkey kits for Mars Sock Monkeys! I left London with this idea so there’s details to be worked out still, but I’m really excited about the possibility. I think of my new motto as: Dressing Sock Monkeys One at a Time. :)

Sock monkey sweaters come with a heart or star design; custom sweaters  and other accessories like hats and scarfs are also available. Message me if you’re interested in clothing for your sock monkey!

Weeeeee! It only took me what seams forever to complete the latest sock monkey. It’s summer, there are things going on, I just moved countries…in the end there’s always a friend giving me a drink. I guess it didn’t take me that long! It’s only been since early June that I started working on the socks with the tag labeled Monkey #2. Three weeks later Kit-Kat, the first ever Mars Sock Monkey made from knee-high socks, was born!

What made this one fun was making the really long striped sleeves. I also had a cool theme to work with…Kitty! I wasn’t sure I was going to leave the whiskers, but then I put on it’s kitty & crossbones hoodie and it all came together nicely! ;)

Things in the works: I’m making a sweater for a sock monkey a little girl made from a kit called Finnoola Peach. Ooh, I like the idea of sock monkey kits! Also sewing baby socks and designing a ladybug graphic for a hoodie. :)
