Here’s something I’d never made for a sock monkey before. It’s a knit romper with a pocket on the front, buttons on the strap and 2 smaller pockets on the back! This cool idea came from my Mom. She thought shorts would be perfect for summer and she’s right. Wearing a hoodie in the summer would be way too hot.

The best part about making this new piece of clothing was that it was very similar to knitting a sock. Using the “turning the heel” technique on the back made a nice little pouch for the monkey’s bottom. ;)

Meet my newest sock monkeys, Peggy and Cookie! They’re the first Mars Sock Monkeys made from my home in Brooklyn. These hip gals are wearing the signature Pink ♥ Hoodie well known to the classic Mars Sock Monkey. Lately I had been using so many different designs for the front of the sweatshirts that I thought it’d be nice to go back to basics. I’m going to continue to make more heart hoodies, including some with stars for the boys.

Peggy and Cookie Mars Sock Monkeys are available for purchase at Maribel Made on Etsy. Happy shopping! Next time I’ll tell you how to make the reversible totebag I made last week at Etsy Labs.  :)

I was really excited to finish Isis because she’s the first monkey to wear my newly designed outfit for girl sock monkeys! This babydoll dress with bows comes with puffy sleeves and a gathered striped skirt with ribbon in the style of Punk Lolita.  I think this look suits Isis well with her cyan and black zigzag stripes and her super long arms, legs and tail. Clearly she’s unlike any other sock monkeys I’ve made! I’m sure they’ll be more variations of this new outfit very soon. :)

Earlier this morning, I released the new batch of Mars Sock Monkeys I’ve been secretly working on for the past month. One noticeably big change about these new monkeys is that they wear sweatshirt fabric hoodies, which I spent a lot of time perfecting so that they kept their original appeal. To celebrate the Fall and Halloween seasons, I chose warm and earthy colors for them to give these new sock monkeys a nice festive look.

These 10 hooded companions are the beginning of a new era of sock monkeys for Maribel Made! Just like their original ancestors with knitted hoodies, these little guys are also handmade by me so you know they’re made with great care and quality products. :)

These and more Mars Sock Monkeys can be purchased online on Etsy. Remember, not one sock monkey is alike so if you see one you like grab it before it’s gone!

Weeeeee! It only took me what seams forever to complete the latest sock monkey. It’s summer, there are things going on, I just moved countries…in the end there’s always a friend giving me a drink. I guess it didn’t take me that long! It’s only been since early June that I started working on the socks with the tag labeled Monkey #2. Three weeks later Kit-Kat, the first ever Mars Sock Monkey made from knee-high socks, was born!

What made this one fun was making the really long striped sleeves. I also had a cool theme to work with…Kitty! I wasn’t sure I was going to leave the whiskers, but then I put on it’s kitty & crossbones hoodie and it all came together nicely! ;)

Things in the works: I’m making a sweater for a sock monkey a little girl made from a kit called Finnoola Peach. Ooh, I like the idea of sock monkey kits! Also sewing baby socks and designing a ladybug graphic for a hoodie. :)

It’s been sunny here in London the last couple of days. Good time to do a photo shoot with Mauricio! He was great. I wanted to take him out, but with the move nearing it was hard. The balcony was a good spot though. Passed for a “coastal” feel.

Mauricio a.k.a Huicho is a gift for my mom. I told her I wanted to make her a sock monkey and she said she wanted a little one. She didn’t even know I was thinking of making little ones! She totally read my mind. Mauricio is also the first born Baby Mars Sock Monkey! There will be plenty more to make in the next couple of months. They’ve proven quite popular! :)

At  8″ tall and 3″ wide, he fits on the palm of your hand!

As you can see I’m now hosting a dedicated WordPress blog here at maribelmade.com. It’s the same WP blog as before, but with a new RSS feed so please update your feed! You can access it here: or http://maribelmade.com/?feed=rss2.

I also decided to keep my blog as my main site so that it’s always fresh with new content. Everything I need is pretty much available to me from this free service and since I don’t have much time to update a full-blown website I think it makes sense to keep doing things the simple and easy way.

If you’re wondering how I got all my content from one account to the other, all I did was export from my previous account and import from the new one. It was great! A little XML file did all the work. I’m also very happy with the loads of plugins available. I used to be wrong about WordPress…now I love it!

To follow through on my promise to take the Mars Sock Monkey to the next level, I will discontinue to make jewellery, crochet hats, knit rings and Jebby the Whale toy in the future. Although these items will not be available for sale online, they might show up at events and fairs. I’m also stopping promotion of my shop on German-based storefront site DaWanda. I will continue to use Etsy, but there are plans to develop a dedicated website. There are a couple of other sites I’ve come across that I’d also like to check out.

Maybe some of you are already using some of these…would love to hear your feedback.

I give you George and Danny Mars Sock Monkeys! They are some of the last sock monkeys I’ll be making for 2008, but there are new and exciting things coming up in 2009 for the Mars Sock Monkey. One of these includes removable clothing, which will also go on sale to dress up your monkeys! There are also plans to launch a new website for Maribel Made (maribelmade.com) with shopping features…good, good things up ahead! :)

George and Danny sold this morning after only having listed them last night! They will be traveling together to their new home here in the UK tomorrow.

Now I know why it’s so exciting to be working in secret. I can’t wait to get this batch of sock monkeys out the door! I had a great response from my last sock monkey, Eriko, and I hope that these little guys will be enjoyed just as much.

These new Mars Sock Monkeys, which I named Lulu, Frankie, Stella, Ben and Sheena, were half-raised in Seattle and London because I bought the socks in Seattle before I moved and put them together here in London. They are international jet setter sock monkeys!

I should be finished with all five this week (four of which will go for sale) and hopefully do a photo shoot by the end of the week if weather permits. I’ve been thinking of a theme and will need a few props. I also have a few other unveilings. One being the new sweater design below, which I modeled after a polo shirt. This is Lulu’s puffy short sleeve hoodie. The rest you’ll have to wait and see!!

Here are some London raised next generation monkeys to be…
